Office of the Diocesan Training Manager for Safe Environment
The Training Manager coordinates and assists parishes and church organizations in the implementation of the training components of the Bishops'
Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People (See Articles 6, 12, and 13 of the Charter). The Training Manager is also responsible to effect the Charter provisions concerning a Code of Conduct, and background checks for clergy, seminarians, lay employees, and volunteers. Additionally, the Training Manager provides consultation to parish leaders (and leaders in other Church organizations) within the diocese to help them achieve implementation of the Charter’s provisions.
The training components of the Bishops’ Charter include:
What Constitutes Child Abuse
What actions, procedures and policies are used to prevent child abuse
How to identify instances of child abuse
Actions an adult should take when they believe child abuse is occurring
Laws & policies re: the reporting of abuse of children
Training materials for children and youth that are age appropriate and pertain to personal safety, improper touching, and relationships
Education for parents regarding child abuse prevention
