Our Commitment
"Knowing how to mourn with others, that is holiness.
Today we are challenged as the People of God to take on the pain
of our brothers and sisters wounded in their flesh and spirit."
-Pope Francis
At the Diocese of Stockton we recognize that healing for the abused is a journey, both for the abused as well as the whole body of the church. Because of this, we are committed to creating a safe space for the abused to tell their story, so that we can be an instrument of God's healing.
Catholic leadership recognizes that more work needs to be done. In February 2019, Pope Francis convened a summit to formulate reforms to ensure the safety of minors around the world.
Through transparency, the Diocese of Stockton promises to protect the vulnerable by making our office available for parishioners, priests and parishes who are affected by sexual abuse by clergy, religious staff and volunteers of the church.
Collectively our pledge is to heal the abused and to restore hope as we grow together in God's love.
