Lent is a period of 40 days, beginning with the celebration of Ash Wednesday through Holy Week. Lent is a time of penance, reflection, fasting, prayer and solemn preparation for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In this time of reflection the Church walks with Christ in the 40 days he walked through the desert conquering temptation. It was in His triumphant victory over temptation that Christ became for us the new Adam, giving hope to sinners and restoring our freedom from the slavery of sin.
The Easter Triduum includes Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The Triduum marks an end to the period of Lent. At this time, the Church experiences the Pascal Mystery of Christ in celebration of the Last Supper and Christ's Passion and Resurrection.
Easter is the period from the First Sunday of Easter to Pentecost Sunday. Easter is of great importance in the liturgical year. During the Easter season, the Church celebrates the resurrection of Christ and His ultimate victory over sin and death. Following Christ's death and resurrection, the Easter season is a time to celebrate the ascension of Christ to the Father and the sending of the Holy Spirit upon His Church at Pentecost.
