St. Andrew, San Andreas
Mexican gold miners working San Andreas Creek welcomed Father John Bobard enthusiastically. In 1848, he constructed a church of pine holes and canvas, with colorful altar cloths and candles in empty champagne bottles. Thus began St. Andrews, the first church in Calaveras County. On Thansgiving Day 1956, Mass was celebrated for the first time in the present day church.
St. Patrick, Angels Camp
In 1858, the local gold miners financed the building of St. Patrick's, Murphys, a mission of San Andreas. In 1854, a small wooden church served the community at Angels Camp and was later wiped out by fire. Another was built and used until 1903. In 1981 the construction of the present day church was completed.
