Proclamation
TODAY
In the name of Jesus Christ, Lord and Shepherd,
I, Stephen Edward Blaire, Bishop of the Diocese of Stockton,
proclaim a Synod to be held in 2006
for the glory of God and the good of the Church.
Today is the time for our Diocesan
Church to be transformed by God’s love
into a new family of parishes on fire with our Catholic faith,
sent forth to restore hope in a world where God is often forgotten,
commanded to love one another as Jesus has loved us.
TODAY
I invoke the Holy Spirit to fill with grace the minds and
hearts of our people who together will discern God’s
will for our Diocese and our parishes. As members of the Church
we are called to live for God in Christ Jesus with a new enthusiasm
engendered by our praying, reflecting and working together.
TODAY
We pray to our Father in heaven, creator of all people, races
and languages,
that his holy name be honored by our efforts devoted to building
bridges of love, stirring hearts to a new conversion and finding
ways to be God’s people in our complex and complicated
world.
TODAY
I place the Synod under the protection of Saint Mary of the
Annunciation, the handmaiden of the Lord, who prayed that
all be done according to God’s word.
May this Synod be a defining
moment of grace for our Diocese
in the third millennium of Jesus Christ.
