Advocacy Ministry
The Catholic Church has an active interest in
creating public policy that protects the vulnerable and provides
opportunities for poor persons to meet their own human needs.
The Church can effectively shape a public policy that is more
caring and just when many of our Catholic people, including
our teenagers, are communicating their views to elected officials.
The Social Ministry Committee will therefore be encouraged
and trained to establish a legislative network in the parish.
These networks, coordinated at the diocesan level, will write
letters, make phone calls, send e-mails, attend lobby day
in Sacramento, and in other appropriate ways, communicate
to public officials at county, state and federal levels Catholic
positions on issues of interest to the whole Church. The networks
will work on issues on which the diocesan bishops have established
policy.
