Members of the Diocesan
Pastoral Council, 2007 - 7 KB - PDF Version
One of the first tasks coming from the Diocesan
Synod is to create the Diocesan Pastoral Council. Its members
will serve as a consultative body to the Bishop by studying
and reflecting on pastoral matters and making recommendations
in response to the pastoral goals of the Synod and to other
significant pastoral issues.
The Diocesan Pastoral Council is a body of 12
to 20 people, made up primarily from the laity.
Each Parish Council with the concurrence of
the pastor will nominate 2 members for the Diocesan Pastoral
Council. Each Dean (assisted by the priests in the Deanery)
will select one representative from these nominations from
the parishes in the Deanery to present to the Bishop for appointment
to the Diocesan Pastoral Council. The Bishop will appoint
up to 9additional lay members.
The Presbyteral Council will nominate three
priests; the Diaconate Board will nominate three deacons;
the Vicar for Women Religious will nominate three women religious.
The Bishop will select one from each group for membership
on the Diocesan Pastoral Council.
As resource to the Diocesan Pastoral Council,
the Bishop may appoint non-voting consultants. The Diocesan
Pastoral Council should be in place by December 15, 2006.
