The Tribunal
The Tribunal is an office in the diocesan
curia established by universal law to adjudicate cases involving
the status of persons, the violation of rights, and penal
matters. The bulk of the Tribunal’s caseload comes from
petitions for the declaration of the invalidity of marriage,
though cases involving the imposition of a canonical penalty
are also judged.
With training in the canon law of the Catholic
Church, the officers of the Tribunal also provide canonical
advise to the Bishop, members of the diocesan curia, priests,
and the Christian faithful.
