Camp La Honda - Recreational Program

The summer camp is held for two weeks and is open to any person with special needs.  One week of camp is for the child under 18 years of age and the second week is for the adult over 18 years.  It annually serves approximately 80 people and is held at Madonna of Peace Retreat Center.

The camp began over 25 years ago as a dream of the late Sr. Madeline Hanot.  Her intent was to provide a time in which a disabled person could participate in a Christian camp experience.  The purpose still remains as it nurtures the spirit of all involved, creates an environment of appreciation and acceptance and enables one to experience the wonder of nature and the outdoors.  Many volunteers make this camp possible and many are teenagers.  Others are social workers, nurses, doctors and teachers who continue to return each year.  It takes many volunteers to make camp a success and new volunteers are needed each year.
