Degree Extension Program

The School of Ministry sponsors Loyola Institute for Ministry Extension Program (L.I.M.E.X.), a Masters Degree and Certificate program offered through Loyola University, New Orleans.

The Loyola Institute for Ministry roots its program in practical theology as a process which engages students in a rhythm of action and theological reflection on their specific ministries. Students critically reflect on both content and experience as they consider and correlate the richness of the Christian tradition with the socio-cultural, institutional, and personal contexts of their ministries. The courses offered by the institute provide women and men in ministry and religious education with an informed and contemporary theological vision and with practical ministerial skills. Those encouraged to participate in the LIMEX program are parochial school teachers, religious education coordinators, deacons, pastoral associates and those involved in parish ministries.

In partnership with the School of Ministry, LIMEX offers its entire degree and certificate programs by extensions at a location in our diocese. Students meet in learning groups led by a Loyola-certified facilitator for ten of the twelve courses (3 credits each). In these common courses, students engage in ten three-hour sessions that involve discussion of printed lectures and other assigned readings, videotaped input by nationally known scholars, and other educational interactions. Students also choose two additional courses in their focus area or religious education. In these courses, a multimedia course packet is provided to students. The packet guides the students through a learning process that combines independent study and peer group sharing.

Students wishing to complete an Undergraduate Degree, have an option of earning three undergraduate credits through Regis University for each three-hour course they complete in Loyola’s certificate program. At the conclusion of the Loyola certificate program, students may earn up to 36 hours of credit toward the requirements for a bachelor’s degree.

Because of the Jesuit commitment to ministry education, Loyola offers a significantly discounted graduate tuition of $756.00 a course. For those seeking a certification or continuing education units the cost is $330.00 a course.

A new program will begin when there are 18 applicants. Anyone wishing to begin the application process or wanting more information can contact Wanda Scheuermann at 546-7629.
