Letter from the Director
Dear Reader,
A group called AFFEC (Adult Faith Formation/Education
committee) has been meeting the first Monday of the month
since October 2000. The group is made up of about 12 people
involved in adult faith formation. The meeting is a time for
parish adult educators to share what is happening in their
own parish, which provides affirmation of their ministry.
It also gives others ideas of what can happen or what can
be adapted.
Time is also dedicated to review the latest
adult faith formation resources. Some of the resources come
in the form of print material, others as video. At one meeting
a presentation was done on using power point. Kits to implement
the General Catechetical Directory have also been reviewed.
The group also serves as a sounding board for
what needs to be done for adult faith formation in the diocese.
This group has also participated in consultations on drafts
of documents for the bishops such as the Adult Catechism.
The group contributed to the consultation on Our Hearts
Were Burning Within Us and then piloted the leaders guide
to accompany the newly published document. Many in the group
have participated in the Catechetical Reflection year.
Any one who is interested may join AFFEC. The
meeting is on the first Monday of every month except July
and August. It begins at 10:30 AM and finishes around 12:30
PM.
Though I am the director of the School of Ministry,
I am also responsible for adult faith formation in the Diocese
of Stockton. Please let me know how I serve your parishioners.
I do hope you will review the links and resources available
to you.
Sister Diane Smith, CSJ
