Development

The Bishop of Stockton is committed to the spiritual welfare, religious formation, and apostolic needs of the people of the Diocese.  In order to maintain and enhance the religious and educational services necessary for a growing faith-community the development department assists in helping the Bishop of Stockton in this goal.

The Diocese of Stockton is made up of more than 250,000 Catholics, perhaps as many as 400,000 according to some estimates.  Catholics represent nearly 20 percent of the total population of the counties of Alpine, Calaveras, Mono, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne, an area of 10,023 square miles.

To minister to the spiritual and educational needs of this community, the Bishop of Stockton maintains certain departments, offices, and agencies which are assisted with an annual budget of over $1.8 million.

As the population continues to grow, the financial support necessary to maintain these vital services must also increase.

In order to continue these educational and religious programs and to enable them to expand to meet future needs additional income must be generated and a solid financial base assured.

The Bishop's Ministry Appeal (BMA) is the major fundraising appeal for the Diocese and provides pastoral services to the six counties.  The primary role of the BMA Office is to assist the parishes as they promote the Bishop’s Ministry Appeal.

The Bishop’s Awards Dinner benefits Catholic Charities and one other ministry that is picked each year.  The work of Catholic Charities integrates the concepts of charity, community, and social justice. Their mission is to offer services to those who are eager to improve their situation and provide for their families.  You can be proud that people of all faiths come to Catholic Charities for help.
