Information for Priests and Pastoral Leaders:

Information for Music Ministers:

All parishes are welcome to choose the Mass setting they would like for the Roman Missal, Third Edition. The Diocese does recommend that parishes learn the following Mass settings over the coming year or two:

  • If you primarily use OCP music, we recommend the "Mass of Christ the Savior" by Dan Schutte. The Cathedral will be using this Mass setting.
  • If you primarily use GIA music, we recommend the "Mass of Joy and Peace" by Tony Alonso. The Diocese will use this Mass setting over the next year for the Vocations Mass and Ministry Day. Serveral parishes indicated that they will use this Mass setting for their Youth Masses
  • For a larger choir and music ministry, we recommend the GIA setting of "Storrington Mass" by Marty Haugen. The Diocese will use this Mass setting over the next year for ordination and Chrism Mass.

Training on the Third Edition of the Roman Missal is being offered to all musicians on August 20 and September 10 through the Diocese of Oakland. The cost is $12 per a person (to cover the cost of lunch). Please see the attached flyer for registration information.

Information for Deacons:

The FDLC is offering training on the Third Edition of the Roman Missal specifically for deacons. The closest training to us will be on September 24 at Church of the Holy Spirit in Fresno. For more information or to register, please go to http://www.fdlc.org/.

The Spanish translation of the Mass is not changing at this time. Within the next several years we expect that there will be a new Spanish translation. There are general resources available in Spanish related to the celebration of the Mass: http://www.usccb.org/romanmissal/espanol2.shtml.
