How Do I Become a Lay Catechist?

To become a certified catechist, in accord with the California Catholic Conference guidelines, candidates must complete the Basic Theology for Ministry course, offered through the Diocesan School of Ministry and the specialized training for catechists offered by the Office of Religious Education. This course emphasizes creative approaches, practical ideas, hands-on activities and projects to implement the Six Tasks of Catechesis called for in the National Directory for Catechesis.
